A fantasy story has to have a home, and that home often comes in the form of a continent: a host to the nations, lands, and cities that populate your world.

Continent naming conventions

Continents are often monosyllabic names resembling our own continents on Earth—including suffixes like “-ia” to designate them as lands rather than towns. Feel free to include more exotic twists, including less-usual letters (z or x).

Continent name inspiration

Unlike country names, continent names can reflect their climates and geographic features, though you’ll want to avoid being too on the nose. “Westeros,” for example, wouldn’t be so interesting if it was called “Westlands.”
